This was a Year 2000 conversion project for Ingersoll Rand- Harrow at Coopersville, MI, USA. The financial systems comprising of Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets and General Ledger were renovated for year 2000 compliance. The application runs on VAX 6620 system. There were 217 COBOL programs and 180 copybooks. DCLs were also analysed for impacts in this project.
Data expansion was used for files and date conversion routines were written for conversion of legacy data to the new format. The analysis and conversion was done offshore. Unit testing and system testing was done onsite. Astronomical date conversion technique was used for date compliance. The validation testing was done for five selected applications for critical dates identified by the client.
We were responsible for managing the project both at offshore and onsite. Responsible for documentary evidence of the analysis and test results and checklists used in the analysis process were provided to the client.
3. Safeway Reengineering and Conversion
This is a reengineering and conversion project for Safeway Supermarket Chain, UK. The project involved about 77 applications and 3000 programs developed on CICS, COBOL, CSP to be converted and migrated to Java technology for front ending the CICS screens. The project was a long term project and is executed in batches. The project has been successfully completed. One of the challenges in this project was the web enabling of the CICS online application systems so that the front end had GUI developed in JAVA and was more user friendly than the original 3270 screens.
Responsibility included managing the project and to execute it in the scheduled time span. Ensure quality records and documents are in place.
4. Supply assets management system
This is a parts management system developed and maintained by Mcdonnel Douglas Corporation, St Louis, Missouri, USA. The system is used to raise orders for the supply of spare parts for their fighter aircraft F-18 and F-16. Information regarding older versions of the aircraft is maintained on IBM mainframes. Information of newer aircraft is maintained on UNIX/Oracle systems.
As the company was maintaining information regarding the aircraft on different machines, there was a requirement to navigate from the ORACLE database to the IBMs IMS database for parts not found on the ORACLE system. Was responsible for developing and implementing conversational IMS transactions for communication between the IMS and ORACLE systems.
5. Installment loan system
This is a financial application developed for J I CASE, Racine, Wisconsin, USA. The application is to generate financial reports. The system was developed on IBM 3090 using IMS DB/DC, MVS/ SA, IMS-EXPERT, DATA XPERT.
We were responsible for program specification and development of the system.
6. Labor reporting system
This is a online reporting system for reporting and capture activities of the John Deere Foundry employees, Waterloo, IOWA. The application is integrated with the payroll system. The system has to be enhanced to cater for incentive workers. The system is in APS-COBOL, IMS DB/DC and DB2. It had 40 transactions.
We were responsible to independently handle enhancement and new program developments.
7. Manufacturing engineering data maintanence system
This is an on-line manufacturing application developed using IMS DB/Dc, DB2, MVS, QMF, TSO and XPEDITER for John Deere & Co, USA. The system was developed to run on IBM3090. The application was developed to monitor part routings, operation sequences, mechanical data, tooling requirements and incentive standards for the manufacturing plants of John Deere all over the world.
Our activities involved identifying segments to be converted into DB2 tables, creation of tables, deciding primary keys, column names, creating synonyms for the tables, granting authority to read and update tables and identify, code & test application programs.
8. Web based examination system
This is a software product developed using Java, Java Beans,HTML and JSP to run on Web Servers like Tomcat, BEA Weblogic and IBM Websphere. The software can be used to test the proficiency of a person after he has undergone a training program. This computer based testing system can be used to score the marks obtained by the student in a specific skill.
The skill sets included presently are General aptitude, IBM Mainframe subjects and Java subjects. The software handles multiple online users and keeps the score separately by incorporating session handling techniques.
9. WINCLAP(Workers Insurance CLAim Processing)
This is an IBM Mainframe application developed for Workers (industrial workers) to insure themselves and make claims in the event of accidents. First the claimant should register the claim and the claimant should furnish the required data. The given data are entered into the claim table. For every claim, coverage determination will ensure that the claimant is eligible for claiming under his/her specific policy If the coverage determination is allowed, policy details such as policy number, policy start date and policy end date are determined. Once the Claim Registration & Coverage Determination is over, investigation on the claim will be started. The insurance Investigator will give a report on whether the claim is valid or not. He will recommend the amount to be given for the claim. Once the investigation is over the claim processing will start based on the report given by the investigator. The claimant will be intimated regarding the outcome of the investigation and the payment details.
The Major Modules of the system are Claim Registration, Coverage Determination, Investigation Report, Claim Processing and Report generation. The Mainframe application system was coded in CICS, COBOL, DB2, VSAM and JCL.
10. Maintancence, upgradation and enhancement project
These are Maintenance projects done for industries abroad, which had multiple operating units. Each unit had its own database of equipment present, performance of the equipment, parameters recorded by the equipment, checks performed, replacements done, repairs conducted etc. over a period of five years. This database was to be revised and expanded for additional units of operation.Typical revisions included change of ID No which from 5-charracters to 7-characters for all equipment in order to accommodate the new additions. A program listing was performed and classifications were made as batch and online programs. All programs which had the impact of the ID No. revisions were identified. There were a total of 78 CICS screens and 123 COBOL-DB2 batch programs, which were modified for the change.
CICS screens were designed, VSAM file structures were modified in the COBOL programs, DB2 tables were revised, new copybooks were generated and tested.Environment: COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS in MVS OS390.
11. Banking customer transaction system
This is a Banking and Loan Transaction system. This application system was developed in COBOL, JCL, DB2 and CICS. Customer account data and various loan information applied by the customers are stored in DB2 tables. The various loan categories include education loan, vehicle loan, agricultural loan . CICS screens are provided to maintain customer accounts and loan transactions. The screens are provided to create customer accounts, new loans and determine pending loan balances of customers. Batch programs are provided to generate weekly, and monthly reports for customer loan out standings and customer account statements.
A major part of the work involved a detailed analysis of the reports generated by various programs, the files/tables that were referenced by the programs for the generation of the reports. Documentation was prepared regarding the variables being used in the COBOL programs for each of the reports. This would help the client in the proposed migration of parts of the system to a JAVA/ORACLE platform.
